Subject: Choice of Venue for Capstone Piece

During my research this week I found that the Atlantic seems to be a good publication for the piece I’m working on. The Atlantic is also one of the only publications I read with any sort of consistency because my parents pay for the physical magazine every month. My familiarity with the publication also gives me a little more passion to do this project well.

The Atlantic in Their Own Words:

The Atlantic claims to still be following their original mission statement from the 2857. This statement holds three core tenants. The first of these being a promise to publish a variety of different literary genres from any English-speaking writer. The secondly, the original writers of the magazine guarantee that the publication will always include some form of visual art. Third, they propose that the Atlantic will not cater to any one political party or group of people. They promise to be “[a] body of men which is in favor of Freedom, National Progress, and Honor, whether public or private” (An Ongoing Tradition). The modern authors of the Atlantic continue to strive toward these tenants today. Down below is the link to this page on their website.

The Atlantic in Other Words

According to Saint Elizabeth University has an entire page on their website dedicated to determining the bias of various US news sources. On this page they write that they consider The Atlantic to be a reliable source for information and that the publication does lean slightly to the left. https://www.steu.edu/academics/mahoney-library/newspapers.html
